Stevie Nicks’ Iconic “Rumours” Look Immortalized in New Barbie Doll

Barbie Pays Tribute to Legendary Musician

Mattel, the renowned toy company, has unveiled a stunning new Barbie doll honoring the legendary singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks. The doll captures Nicks’ iconic look from the cover of Fleetwood Mac’s seminal album, “Rumours.”

A Birthday Surprise

The Barbie doll was revealed during Nicks’ sold-out concert at Madison Square Garden. Mattel created the doll in celebration of Nicks’ 75th birthday, which she celebrated in May. Pre-orders for the $55 doll sold out within minutes.

Designer’s Inspiration

Bill Greening, a designer at Mattel, expressed his admiration for Nicks’ trailblazing career. “I love to pay tribute to legendary female musicians through our Barbie dolls,” he said. “I was thrilled when I found out she agreed to partner with us on a doll.”

Nicks’ Initial Concerns

Nicks initially questioned whether the Barbie doll would accurately represent her spirit. “Of course I questioned, ‘Would she look like me? Would she have my spirit?’” she wrote on X. But after seeing the final design, she declared, “When I look at her, I see my 27-year-old self.”

Attention to Detail

Mattel collaborated closely with Nicks to ensure the doll’s authenticity. Nicks requested adjustments to the eyebrows and eye makeup to capture her signature look. The final design features Nicks’ iconic platform boots, moon pendant necklace, and a long, black dress inspired by the “Rumours” cover.

A Creative Collaboration

“Mattel gave me a lot of platform to be creative and I jumped right on that platform,” Nicks said. She provided Mattel with her original “Rumours” outfit, which was meticulously recreated for the doll.

Joining the Ranks of Legends

With this new Barbie doll, Nicks joins an exclusive group of legendary musicians who have been honored with their own dolls. Other iconic artists to receive the Barbie treatment include Tina Turner, Gloria Estefan, David Bowie, and Elvis Presley.

Celebrity Dolls: A Crossover Appeal

Bradley Justice, a doll historian and owner of the Swell Doll Shop, explains the crossover appeal of celebrity dolls. “You attract someone who previously may have not had an interest at all in the doll or the brand but suddenly is very excited to see their favorite singer or movie star immortalized in 11 and a half inches.”

A Legacy of Inspiration

Nicks’ Barbie doll not only celebrates her iconic style but also serves as an inspiration to aspiring musicians and young girls everywhere. Her journey from a young songwriter to a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee is a testament to her talent, creativity, and enduring influence.
